Transform Your Life with Expert Psychotherapy!
With over 13 years of experience, including work within the NHS secondary care system, I specialise in trauma, attachment, and relationship issues.
Therapy offers a unique opportunity to deepen your self-understanding—unlocking insights into your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships. Through this process, real change becomes possible, allowing you to break free from patterns that may feel stuck, repetitive, or self-destructive. It helps you process and become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your problems.

Many people come into therapy because they feel they are trapped by their past and want to talk it through with someone and work through things on a deeper level. Some people may want to process symptoms related to their experiences and as a result this will reduce symptoms.

About Me
MY EXPERIENCE
Hello, my name is Ruhsen and I am a UKCP qualified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist with over 13 years of experience, encompassing NHS secondary services, private, educational settings and running own workshops. Experienced in weekly and twice weekly, long and short-term individual and group psychotherapy with numerous clients with a range of symptoms from different backgrounds and experiences. Privately I see clients individually, supervise trainees and offer consultation services for psychotherapists, counsellors and other health care professionals.

CURRENT PROFILE
I currently work in NHS Secondary Care Services as a Principal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and have a small private practice delivering therapy online. I have specialised in delivering evidence-based therapy to adults experiencing symptoms of personality disorder, trauma, depression, anxiety, relational difficulties and loss. Prior to my psychoanalytic training, I worked for several years with university students with mental health, learning and physical difficulties and counselling with trauma and sexual abuse survivors.

QUALIFICATIONS
I completed a Masters in Clinical Science in Psychotherapy at University of Kent and am registered with the UK Council of Psychotherapy. I abide by their Code of Ethics. I am also qualified Mentalisation-based treatment (MBT) practitioner through Anna Freud Centre working with clients with a diagnosis of complex trauma or personality disorder. I also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) through EMDR Consultancy and provide therapy to those struggling with symptoms of trauma.

HOW I CAN HELP
Together, we can work through challenges to uncover new possibilities for a healthier, more fulfilling life. I offer a supportive and compassionate environment where you can feel safe to explore your difficulties and move forward.

A Bit About Therapy
Therapy provides a safe space to explore and express your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences—both those you are fully aware of and those that may be unconscious. By bringing these aspects of your inner world to light, therapy helps you process difficult experiences, including painful or traumatic events, in a supportive and constructive way.
Through therapy, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself—your thinking, emotional patterns, and relationships—which opens the door to positive, lasting change. Therapy can help you break free from repetitive, self-destructive patterns and create healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.

WHO CAN BENEFIT
Psychotherapy can be an effective treatment for a variety of issues. If you are experiencing any of the following, therapy could help:

-
Difficulty coping or resolving conflicts
-
Feelings of resentment, disappointment, or despair
-
Overwhelmed by family problems
-
Struggling to manage stress or recover from stressful situations
-
Feelings of loneliness, emptiness, depression, or extreme mood swings
-
Anxiety, panic, or difficulty concentrating
-
Questions or concerns about your sexuality
-
Issues with alcohol or eating habits
-
Challenges in forming or maintaining relationships
-
Repeatedly engaging in unsatisfying or destructive relationships
-
The urge to harm yourself to feel better
-
Feeling that life is not worth living or that change is impossible

WHO BENEFITS MOST
Therapy is most effective for those who are motivated to explore themselves more deeply and are willing to confront emotional pain in order to create meaningful change. If you're relying on alcohol or other substances to cope with your emotions or life’s challenges, addressing and reducing substance use will be an important part of the process for therapy to be truly effective.
Therapies

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals gain insight into their inner world and understand how unconscious thoughts, feelings, and early experiences influence their current behavior and relationships. Unlike many other therapies, psychodynamic therapy seeks deep, lasting change in personality and emotional development rather than just symptom relief.
Drawing on theories from Psychoanalysis and Analytical Psychology, this approach explores unresolved conflicts, repressed emotions, and defense mechanisms that shape a person's experience. By increasing self-awareness and examining the impact of past relationships, psychodynamic therapy helps individuals understand complex emotional and relational issues, leading to greater emotional resilience and healthier relationships.
It is particularly effective for those struggling with long-term psychological challenges, offering not only symptom reduction but also lasting emotional growth and transformation.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapeutic technique primarily used to treat trauma-related conditions, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR helps individuals process distressing memories that may be "stuck" in the brain, allowing them to reprocess these memories so they are no longer experienced with overwhelming intensity.
The goal of EMDR is to desensitize individuals to the emotional impact of traumatic memories, enabling them to recall the event without the intense emotional reactions it once triggered. During treatment, you focus on a back-and-forth movement or sound while recalling the distressing memory. This process helps facilitate the reprocessing of the memory, leading to shifts in how the memory is experienced and allowing the brain to integrate past information more effectively.
EMDR is especially effective for trauma and can help reduce emotional distress, enabling individuals to move forward with greater emotional resilience and clarity.

Mentalisation
Based
Treatment
Mentalizing is the ability to understand and interpret both our own and others' thoughts, feelings, and mental states. It involves recognizing that people’s behaviors are driven by underlying mental processes, and it allows us to make sense of interactions, both consciously and unconsciously.
At its core, mentalizing is a social process: we constantly interpret and respond to the mental states of those around us, whether we’re physically present with them or thinking about them from a distance. By focusing on what is happening in our own minds, we also try to understand what might be happening in the minds of others—especially in situations that trigger strong emotions or challenging behaviors.
Mentalizing helps us become aware of moments when we, or others, are not mentalizing—such as when we misinterpret intentions or struggle to understand our emotional responses. It also sheds light on how we seek care and connection from others, and how we can improve our relationships by better understanding each other’s perspectives.

WHAT IS GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY?

"If our difficulties are with people, then with people we must be"

Group therapy will consist of you being a part of a group of other clients and a therapist where you will all attempt to work together to try and understand how difficulties you have encountered throughout your past has had an impact on the way you are experiencing life in the here-and-now. The therapist will attempt to help clients face turbulent experiences, thoughts, memories, emotions with the intention to help encompass a sense of inner resilience. It is common for past experiences, such as loss, trauma and childhood abuse to shape the way you might perceive yourself and others, influencing repetitive behaviours as well as emotional disturbances that have led to feelings of hopelessness and being stuck. The sessions will be structured using psychodynamic and psychoanalytic framework as well as psycho education around trauma, emotions and attachment.

"My experience was super positive! I came in with specific topics I wanted to discuss, and the intent to figure out what changes I needed to make in my life. Since then, I have become more proficient with reframing situations, as well as acquiring the tools I need to make big changes and take more risks in life! Its led to me seeing myself more positively, as well as being able to be more proactive in the decision making of my life."

"Ruhsen has been wonderful and has made a huge difference to my anxiety. She has helped me to understand my feelings better, to be able to put everything into perspective and has given me some coping strategies when I do get anxious. I am in a much better place regarding my mental well- being and I am very grateful to Ruhsen for her help, support and time. She has been very easy to talk to, thank you so much Ruhsen."
Sanjeet, UK
"Ruhsen was an amazing help, kind and supportive. When my workplace recommended therapy sessions (well told me they'd signed me up).. I was very hesitant. I've always had the mindset of 'Keeping myself to myself', 'Talking does not help'.. I was surprised with how much the sessions actually helped me. I laughed, I cried and I - for the first time, opened up. So a massive Thank you to Ruhsen. Thank you again."
