Transform Your Life with Expert Psychotherapy!

With over 13 years of experience, including work within the NHS secondary care system, I specialise in trauma, attachment, and relationship issues.

Therapy offers a unique opportunity to deepen your self-understanding—unlocking insights into your thoughts, behaviours, and relationships. Through this process, real change becomes possible, allowing you to break free from patterns that may feel stuck, repetitive, or self-destructive. It helps you process and become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your problems.

Many people come into therapy  because they feel they are trapped by their past and want to talk it through with someone and work through things on a deeper level. Some people may want to process symptoms related to their experiences and as a result this will reduce symptoms.

CURRENT PROFILE

I currently work in NHS Secondary Care Services as a Principal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and have a small private practice delivering therapy online. A Bit About Therapy

Therapy is an opportunity to explore and find words for our experiences, thoughts, feelings and behaviours; both those we are aware of and those of which we are less conscious. This can help us to process our experience, including that which is painful and traumatic.

Therapy can help us to understand ourselves; our thinking, behaviour and relationships better, thus enabling constructive change in our lives. We can move beyond stuck, repetitive and self-destructive patterns of relating to ourselves and others, to new and healthier possibilities.

Who can benefit?

Psychotherapy can be an effective treatment for a range of different problems. Perhaps you are feeling:

•      unable to cope or to resolve conflicts

•      burdened by resentment, disappointment or despair

•      that family problems are too much to bear

•      that it is very difficult to deal with stress or recover from stressful situations

•      lonely, empty, depressed or that you have to deal with extreme mood change

•      anxious, “panicky” or unable to concentrate

•      curious or anxious about your sexuality

•      concerned about drinking or eating problems

•      that you have difficulties in making or keeping relationships

•      you repeatedly become involved in unsatisfying or destructive relationships

•      that you have to harm yourself to feel better

•      that life is not worth living or that there is little hope for change

•     you struggle with physical problems which are not easily explained or don’t fit into a diagnosis.

People who benefit most are usually those who want to understand themselves better and who have the motivation to commit to the process, even when it involves facing emotional pain.

If you are relying on alcohol or other substances to help you to deal with your mood difficulties or with general life, then you will need to think about minimising or stopping your alcohol/substance use completely to benefit from psychotherapy.

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is a therapeutic process which helps patients understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships, both past and present. It differs from most other therapies in aiming for deep seated change in personality and emotional development, and draws on theories of Analytical Psychology and Psychoanalysis. It aims to help people with serious psychological disorders to understand and change complex, deep-seated and often unconsciously based emotional and relationship problems thereby reducing symptoms and alleviating distress.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing is a specialist treatment primarily used to treat trauma related difficulties such as PTSD. EMDR aims to help the brain “unstick” and reprocess the memory properly so that it is no longer so intense. It also helps to desensitise the person to the emotional impact of the memory, so that they can think about the event without experiencing such strong feelings. In EMDR, you will pay attention to a back-and-forth movement or sound while you call to mind the upsetting memory until shifts occur in the way that you experience that memory and more information from the past is processed.

Mentalisation Based Treatment

Mentalizing is the process by which we make sense of each other and ourselves, implicitly and explicitly, in terms of subjective states and mental processes. It is a profoundly social construct in the sense that we are attentive to the mental states of those we are with, physically or psychologically.

You focus on what is going on in your mind and think about what might be going on in other peoples' minds, particularly in situations which may cause a strong emotional reaction and problematic behaviours. It helps you to understand non mentalising in your self and others and how you seek care from others.

What is Group Psychotherapy?

"If our difficulties are with people, then with people we must be"

Group therapy will consist of you being a part of a group of other clients and a therapist where you will all attempt to work together to try and understand how difficulties you have encountered throughout your past has had an impact on the way you are experiencing life in the here-and-now. The therapist will attempt to help clients face turbulent experiences, thoughts, memories, emotions with the intention to help encompass a sense of inner resilience. It is common for past experiences, such as loss, trauma and childhood abuse to shape the way you might perceive yourself and others, influencing repetitive behaviours as well as emotional disturbances that have led to feelings of hopelessness and being stuck. The sessions will be structured using psychodynamic and psychoanalytic framework as well as psycho education around trauma, emotions and attachment.

Group therapy can help with a wide range of psychological difficulties including:

- Building better relationships with yourself and others

- Healing trauma and navigating personality traits

- Boosting self-esteem and confidence

- Managing anger, anxiety, and depression

- Embracing change, growth, and personal development

"My experience was super positive! I came in with specific topics I wanted to discuss, and the intent to figure out what changes I needed to make in my life. Since then, I have become more proficient with reframing situations, as well as acquiring the tools I need to make big changes and take more risks in life! Its led to me seeing myself more positively, as well as being able to be more proactive in the decision making of my life."

Katie, FR

"Ruhsen has been wonderful and has made a huge difference to my anxiety. She has helped me to understand my feelings better, to be able to put everything into perspective and has given me some coping strategies when I do get anxious. I am in a much better place regarding my mental well- being and I am very grateful to Ruhsen for her help, support and time. She has been very easy to talk to, thank you so much Ruhsen."

Sanjeet, UK

"Ruhsen was an amazing help, kind and supportive. When my workplace recommended therapy sessions (well told me they'd signed me up).. I was very hesitant. I've always had the mindset of 'Keeping myself to myself', 'Talking does not help'.. I was surprised with how much the sessions actually helped me. I laughed, I cried and I - for the first time, opened up. So a massive Thank you to Ruhsen. Thank you again."
